Julius’s parents met when they were in 10th grade. When his mother became pregnant, her parents had her boyfriend, Julius’s father, arrested and imprisoned for six months. After being released from prison, Julius’s father angrily vowed to never support his son. Julius was sent to live with his mother’s parents. He experienced loss again when his grandmother died while he was very young, resulting in him being sent to live with an uncle for several years. When Julius was in 3rd grade, his uncle got married, but his wife did not want the young boy. Eventually, Julius was sent to live with his mother, a single mother of 3. She struggled to find a way to help him complete elementary school but providing for school beyond grade 7 was out of the question. God intervened in Julius’ life and he was sponsored by an organization that began helping him with part of his school fees and scholastic materials. He was given the opportunity to attend a Christian high school with a partial academic scholarship. Knowing his mother could not help financially, Julius worked diligently to maintain his academic level through high school to keep his scholarship. He also took advantage of a work program at the school, working weekends and holidays to help pay part of his fees. However, when he took the national exams he did not score high enough to attend university. Determinedly, Julius stayed in school, repeating his final year to prepare to retake the national exam. Now in Launch Uganda, Julius has full hope of achieving his dream of becoming a nurse. He hopes to use his education to help his siblings get through school as others helped him.
