Robert is one of 10 children born to his parents. Neither parent had the opportunity to attend school but worked hard farming their land to provide for their children’s basic needs. When Robert was in 5th grade, his older sister developed a mental condition which completely altered her normal behavior. In desperation, his parents sold most of the family’s land trying to find a solution, but sadly were unable find help or answers. With little land left to farm, extreme poverty became the family’s new reality. Robert was able to complete elementary school and to pass his grade 7 national exams, but continuing education seemed out of the question until he was given an academic scholarship to attend a Christian high school. Highly motivated academically, he continued to receive  scholarships for most of his high school years. During his last two years, Robert worked at the school in exchange for part of his fees, allowing him to complete the advanced levels (grades 11 and 12) required to qualify for university. Robert’s motivation to become an accountant comes from a deep desire to help his siblings complete their education and to help provide for his family. With Robert’s hard work, Launch Uganda is a way to make that dream a reality.
